LAHORE: Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PHMA) elected Shahzad Azam Khan as its central chairman for 2013-14. The election took place in the meeting of the central executive committee in Karachi.
The newly-elected chairman, in a statement, said the knitwear sector exports goods worth more than two billion dollars and employs hundreds of thousands of workers. He said the sector is facing difficulties due to the supply shortage of gas and power.
With adequate power and gas supply only the benefits of the generalised scheme of preferences plus – which is likely to be awarded to Pakistan by the beginning of 2014 – can be availed, he said.
He said the development and success of garment industrial estates will be possible if the planning and implementation are done in consultation with stakeholders.
